The teacher, a slender, furred beast, walked in, right on time and not a minute late. His eyes were that of a cat, but the pattern of his fur suggested something exotic.

"On wednesdays, such as this one, you'll have defence, on thursdays you'll have support and on fridays, you'll have combat," the teacher told them. Some students made notes of this. "Near the end of the class, I'll give you short forms in which you'll write your name and a simple 'yes' or 'no' if you want to attend the duels."

A guy sitting in the back shouted. "Dodge out of its freakin' way?" This got a chuckle out of the other classmates and a smile from their teacher.

"Right." Taking a sheet of paper, he wrote her name down with a '+1' right next to it.

"Before you go and do any of those things, however, be it dodging, absorbing or reflecting the spell back," he said to the class. "You have to know what sort of spell you're trying to avoid getting hit by. What's the easiest way to identify a spell?"
